Sam is an associate director at Vivid Economics with interests and expertise in climate and disaster resilience, the net zero transition, climate change policies and market designs, and sustainable development. Most of his projects have been with international organisations and government agencies engaged in development and the environment.
Sam is Director of the Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment at the London School of Economics. Outside academia, Sam is currently a Non-Executive Director of CDC Group, the UK’s development finance institution, and he served on the UK Committee on Climate Change from 2008 to 2016. Previously, Sam has worked at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the World Bank and the Global Environment Facility. He has studied economics at the University of Berne (Switzerland), the London School of Economics and University College London.
