Invest and Prosper: A Business Case for Investing in Planning

The Royal Town Planning Institute commissioned Vivid to undertake a key piece of research towards building a business case for planning, developing an evidence-based narrative on how investment in planning in the UK can return public savings and wider social, economic and strategic benefits.

The business case aims to offer clarity on the links between good planning and valuable outcomes. The analysis finds that raising planning ambitions can deliver significant public sector benefits, including NHS savings of more than £140 per year from reduced risk of illness and homelessness and £15 million in fiscal savings due to reduced unemployment. The business-case will therefore support governments across the UK and Northern Ireland in making the case for increasing funding for planning at the local and regional level.
