Enhancing electricity network efficiency
Vivid Economics and our partner, Arup, were asked by the Department for International Development to examine opportunities to improve electricity network efficiency in developing countries. The study is intended to support knowledge sharing on technology and policy options that can enhance energy access, reduce emissions and support the integration of renewable energy in electricity grids.
A structured literature review was used to develop a short list of technologies with the potential to offer significantly improved network efficiency. Case studies within these priority areas demonstrated lessons for practitioners on how each could be cost-effectively deployed to achieve high impact. Finally, the lessons from the case studies were combined with high level quantitative analysis to identify countries that could benefit from programmes within this sector.
