Alex has deep professional experience in the design and impact of climate policies. He has helped design effective policies and carbon markets around the world and has advised on the strategic implications of climate policies. Alex also has expertise in climate finance, particularly in results-based auctions mechanisms and building capacity in governments to access climate finance. His clients include government agencies, international organisations, NGOs and multinational companies and industry associations.
Prior to joining Vivid, Alex was an energy and climate change economist at DNA Economics in South Africa. Here he helped design South Africa’s carbon tax, provincial green economy plans and undertook socioeconomic impact assessments, including computable general equilibrium (CGE) modelling of investments into mitigation. Alex has also been a research associate at the Environmental Policy Research Unit (EPRU) at the University of Cape Town, where he focussed on applying behavioural economics to environmental challenges.
Alex holds a Masters of Social Science in Economic Development with distinction and a first class Bachelor of Social Science in Economics (honours) from the University of Cape Town, South Africa
